Fighting Food Insecurity
In D.C., almost 11% of households struggle to afford enough food.
10.6% of households in the District of Columbia reported struggling to provide enough food for themselves and their families in 2021, despite a better economy.
In the District, households with children experience food insecurity at a rate of 13.6 percent compared to 6.7 percent, which is almost twice as high.
In accordance with the Food Research & Action Center's report, "Food Insecurity Among Older Adults," 12.8 percent of the almost 90,000 older persons in Washington, D.C., are currently food insecure. Additionally, D.C. has the largest percentage of seniors in the country who are at risk of going hungry at 20.1%
